Some recipes are more than just a recipe. This vegan birthday cake for dogs was originally created for Maya’s 12th birthday on July 1st, 2025 – a hot summer day with temperatures reaching 35 °C in the shade, a dog pool and lots of excitement.
As Tobyas joined the celebration as a birthday guest, there were two small cakes. The frozen base made from homemade Happi provides a refreshing treat on warm days, while the creamy topping made from soy yogurt and vegan cream cheese turns this dog cake into something truly special.
Decorated with banana slices, raspberries and edible “candles” made from dog treats, this vegan birthday cake for dogs can easily be adapted to your own dog’s preferences – perfect for birthdays, gotcha days or simply to make a special dog happy.

- Carefully remove the frozen cakes from the bowls and turn them upside down onto plates, flat side down.

- Mix the soy yogurt and vegan cream cheese and spread the mixture all over the cakes.

- Return the cakes to the freezer for another 30 minutes so that the topping can firm up.
- Decorate as desired, for example with banana slices, raspberries or dog treats.

For Maya’s birthday cake, some candles were made from VegDog Beevys and others from dried bread cut into thin sticks. Small pieces of VegDog Jerkeys served as flames. To help the flames stay in place, carefully score the ends of both the candles and the flames with a knife before assembling them.
Serving suggestion
On hot summer days, this cake tastes especially good after a splash in the dog pool or a shared swimming adventure.

Note
- Depending on your dog’s size and eating speed, the cake can also be served in smaller portions.
- This cake is intended as a special treat for birthdays and other celebrations. Due to the larger amounts of soy yogurt, vegan cream cheese and fruit, it should only be served occasionally and not as a regular meal.
