On warm days, a lighter combination in the bowl can be especially pleasant for dogs. This summer bowl combines quinoa and black beans with water-rich zucchini and beetroot – fresh, simple and easy to prepare ahead.
It works well as an addition to the meal plan and can be made with just a few ingredients from the supermarket.

Ingredients (about 4 portions for a 25-30 kg dog)
- 130 g white quinoa
- 250 g zucchini
- 150 g pre-cooked beetroot
- 150 g cooked black beans
- 100 g plain tofu (optional)
- 1 tbsp flaxseed oil
- water
Instructions
- Important: Rinse the quinoa very thoroughly with hot water to remove bitter compounds.
- Bring the quinoa to a boil with about 450 ml water in a 3-liter pot, then let it simmer gently for 8 minutes with the lid closed.
- Meanwhile, wash and dice the zucchini.
- Cut the beetroot and tofu into small pieces.
- Rinse the black beans.
- After the first 8 minutes, add the zucchini to the pot and cook for another 6 minutes.
- Then gently fold in the black beans, beetroot and tofu and cook for 4 more minutes.
Total cooking time should be about 18–20 minutes. The quinoa should be soft but still fluffy.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool.
- Stir in the flaxseed oil and add supplements if desired.
Note
This bowl works well as a fresh addition or combined with a balanced complete dog food. For long-term nutritional balance, micronutrients should be supplemented and monitored regularly.
