On warm days, a lighter combination in the bowl can be especially pleasant for dogs. This summer bowl combines quinoa and black beans with water-rich zucchini and beetroot – fresh, simple and easy to prepare ahead.

It works well as an addition to the meal plan and can be made with just a few ingredients from the supermarket.

🕒 Prep time: 30 minutes
👩🏼‍🍳 Difficulty: easy

Ingredients (about 4 portions for a 25-30 kg dog)

  • 130 g white quinoa
  • 250 g zucchini
  • 150 g pre-cooked beetroot
  • 150 g cooked black beans
  • 100 g plain tofu (optional)
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil
  • water

Instructions

  1. Important: Rinse the quinoa very thoroughly with hot water to remove bitter compounds.
  2. Bring the quinoa to a boil with about 450 ml water in a 3-liter pot, then let it simmer gently for 8 minutes with the lid closed.
  3. Meanwhile, wash and dice the zucchini.
  4. Cut the beetroot and tofu into small pieces.
  5. Rinse the black beans.
  6. After the first 8 minutes, add the zucchini to the pot and cook for another 6 minutes.
  7. Then gently fold in the black beans, beetroot and tofu and cook for 4 more minutes.

Total cooking time should be about 18–20 minutes. The quinoa should be soft but still fluffy.

  1. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool.
  2. Stir in the flaxseed oil and add supplements if desired.

Note

This bowl works well as a fresh addition or combined with a balanced complete dog food. For long-term nutritional balance, micronutrients should be supplemented and monitored regularly.
