Rice & Broccoli Happi Bowl

When days are active and the wind smells of the sea, meals can be simple. This Happi Bowl combines rice, lentils and vegetables into a gentle base that’s easy to prepare and works well even when traveling with limited kitchen equipment.

It’s not meant to replace a fully balanced long-term diet but rather serves as a fresh addition – simple, tested by Tobyas and rated with “paws up”.

Ingredients (approx. 4 portions for a 25-30 kg dog)

  • 80 g rice
  • 60 g red lentils
  • 2 medium potatoes (about 300 g)
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 small broccoli
  • 100-150 g plain tofu
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • water
  • a few drops vegan omega-3 oil (optional, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice and lentils thoroughly and place them in a pot with at least 3 liters capacity.
  2. Peel the potatoes, dice them and add them to the pot.
  3. Slice the carrots and add them as well.
  4. Cover everything with about 700–800 ml water, bring to a boil with the lid on.
  5. Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 20 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, wash and chop the broccoli and dice the tofu.
  7. Add both to the pot and cook for another 8–10 minutes.
  8. Remove from the heat and stir in the ground flaxseed.
  9. Important: Let the bowl cool before serving.

Note

This bowl works well as a fresh addition or combined with a balanced complete dog food.

For long-term nutritional balance, minerals, vitamin B12, vitamin D and omega-3 should be supplemented when needed.
