Vegan Cooking for Dogs – Born Out of Love
I began cooking myself out of concern – and out of love. When Maya was not feeling well, a colleague recommended Moro’s carrot soup. It is a well-known home remedy for acute diarrhoea, gastrointestinal infections and inflammation of the intestinal lining. I prepared a plant-based version, and she started to feel a little better.
This first soup gradually became a routine. I began experimenting, adding other ingredients, and eventually came across vegan complete foods and suitable supplements for home-cooked meals. Maya’s blood test results remained stable, she was fit and visibly felt well – and I thought to myself: never stop a running system.
When Tobyas later joined us, I stayed on the same path. At first he was sceptical about the cooked food and preferred dry kibble. So I mixed it in gradually – first one spoonful, then two. Over time he got used to it and developed a taste for it. Today he can hardly wait to dive into his bowl.
In this category I share practical plant-based meals and snacks for dogs – based on real-life experience and with the aim of showing that plant-based dog food is possible.
For a balanced diet over the long term, targeted nutrient supplementation is important. Regardless of the feeding approach, I consider regular blood tests helpful – they provide reassurance and allow diets to be adjusted individually.
