Moro’s carrot soup is a classic gentle diet for dogs with digestive issues. It’s simple, time-tested – and one of the very first things I once cooked for Maya.
When the stomach is out of balance, this can be a calm first step back. Not a miracle cure. But often exactly what’s needed.
Recipe Overview
🕒 Preparation time: about 100 minutes
👩🏼🍳 Difficulty: easy
Ingredients
- 500 g carrots
- 1 liter water
- 1 level tsp salt
Instructions
- Peel the carrots and cut them into small pieces.
- Bring them to a boil with 1 liter of water.
- Important: let simmer for at least 90 minutes. During this long cooking time, so-called oligosaccharides are formed. These can help prevent certain bacteria from attaching to the intestinal wall – this is what makes the soup so special.
- Blend the carrots until smooth.
- Top up with boiled water to about 1 liter.
- Stir in the salt.
Notes
- Feed several small portions throughout the day.
- Serve lukewarm (not hot or cold).
- Always provide fresh water.
- Suitable as a temporary gentle diet and not a complete meal.
Optional
Once your dog regains appetite, you can add a little rice and later easily digestible protein (e.g. finely chopped tofu).
